FEP Machined Parts – Material Description

FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) is a soft, melt-processable fluoropolymer offering exceptional chemical resistance and outstanding electrical properties. While FEP has lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance than many engineering plastics, it excels in environments where chemical inertness, temperature stability, and dielectric performance are critical.

FEP provides:

  • Extremely high stress-crack resistance

  • Very low coefficient of friction

  • Exceptional dielectric properties across a wide frequency range

  • Long-term retention of properties after continuous service at 400°F (204°C)

  • Useful performance down to -454°F (-270°C)

  • Compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550

FEP also offers high optical clarity, with excellent transmission of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. It has the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in minimal light reflection—similar to water.

Notable FEP Material Features

  • Excellent chemical resistance

  • Wide operating temperature range (-400°F to 400°F)

  • Outstanding electrical insulation properties

  • Low friction and high stress-crack resistance

  • Excellent weatherability and UV resistance

  • USFDA approved for applicable applications

  • Also available in tubing, film, roll covers, and shrink tubing
